Hey Erischan bros,
Don't know how acquainted you are with ye ole Infinity Cup, but we're going to revamp it this year and we'd like to have you guys in as well.
To join us, come to https://anon.cafe/icup/ and discuss your own team and representatives there. Can't wait to have fun with you guys!

 No.2158

fuck dude this sounds cool but I have absolutely no clue how soccer works or what we need to do to get a team in here

 No.2159

I'm alright at fusbal in real life but never tried it in vidya gaems. Plus 300+ ping. I can 3D model basic shit but have never tried rigging. In fact those are all good things, since this… is… CHAOS.
I will make a thread there in a few hours. I need to read up on rigged wiki so I know what the hell I just signed up for. If someone here actually plays PES, now would be the time to say that.

 No.2160

Is it possible to break the game somehow? If not, I'm out.

 No.2161

Wait nevermind, I had an idea.

Let's copy someone elses team, names, shirts everything. That should have interesting outcomes.

 No.2162

if there's a way we can randomly generate the team strategy somehow, i'm up for it

 No.2163

We can submit a random one.
We can also submit an intentionally chaotic one. I'd rather that, simply because it's fun.

I have already taken steps to ensure we have a valid team. We made it in early and are showing more interest than existing teams from last season, so we should make it in.
I'll do the draft kits today, so I think all we really need to do now is create a player roster (I didn't want to name all the players myself and a couple of you have already contributed good player names)
note: Never take any of my recommendations as concrete and final. Challenge shit decisions. Create new ideas. There is no leader here, only Pope Anon.

 No.2192

In the team save file, I think we should make fnord the captain to exploit the captaincy skill without wasting an Eris skill slot. Eris can stay captain on the wiki tho.
That way, we can add more chaotic trickster skills to Eris.

 No.2194

Btw, remember to do what you do best to ensure theres fun and engaging tournamet experience for everyone, not just /eris/ team.

 No.2198

>>2194
For sure. That was the main motivation for not going full random or non-sensical, but I was rightly called out for being too boring instead. We're finding a decent balance now.
As anon suggested, player names like 'the referee' should bring some laughs to our opposition and commentators

Hopefully these updates don't get annoying.
Disclaimer: I have only one controller and whenever no-one is 'coaching' our side (won't happen in the cup I believe), the AI moves our second striker to the exact opposite side of the field and messes up the other positions. Therefore I can't guarantee the strategy tests aren't rigged by PES to assist the player (me).

Our formation has changed from the controversial 'Hand of Eris' to this intermediate strategy: 'Don't Tell The Other Team We're All Right-Footed'.
It has already seen surprisingly decent results, potentially due to the decision to use a more characteristically Erisian loose positioning strictness.

Our overall aggressive tactics have been reasonably effective while promoting interesting gameplay. In an early test, our goalkeeper took a corner kick, landing it on the head of our right fullback, straight into the back of the net. Another game had our fullback defender score this amazing goal (vid related).
If we don't win, at least we will bring some much-needed fun to the cup.
(note: players in picture aren't the proper roster, just an early test. Uniform is /liberty/s because it looks close enough)

We won our first cup!

The following is my first attempt to run a cup properly.
Our pool is just like the real thing (two controllers, coach mode, neutral) except I didn't run any substitutions.
The Knockout has /2hu/ and /a/ who were automanaged by AI (not like cup)

Pool 1:
eris v ausneets 1-6 loss
co v christ 3-1
[cup crashed, restarted]

Pool 1:
eris v ausneets 1-1 draw
co v christ 3-1

christ ausneets 1-1
eris v co 3-0 win

co v ausneets 3-0
eris v christ 3-4 loss

K.O.:
co v 2hu 1-3
a v eris 2-2-> 3-5 win in extra time

2hu v eris 1-2 eris ftw

Football is a fully state-supported media industry. This team game (or rather not the game itself, but the fans for one or another team) helps the government to support national and class segregation. >Honestly, none of the models need to be detailed because we're only gonna be looking at them from a birds eye view.
Most of the game is like that, plus the stream quality could hide the little mistakes. I do want to have a decent level of quality though because there are close-up shots in the intro and goals.
Vid related is probably the final model, apart from the mistextured top of his hat and (if I can) the reflectiveness of the flat painted-on hair.
I'll promise not to stress myself out over details like blinking until all the important stuff is done. I'll probably only make 5 or so characters (including Emperor Norton and 'no-one' who is invisible and just shows as shadows) unless I finish them all too quickly.

>>2242
I am a fan of the current player 'the referee'.
Here is the current proposed lineup, open to changes.
http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki//eris/#Roster
I do want to avoid 'lets ignore the board culture and name the whole team [random]'-type ideas. It is more consistent with true Discordian culture but as a one-off joke it's also a waste of potential and fun. Individual player names like that are fine though.

>Is the anthem still up for debate
Certainly. I put hovertext over the current suggestions (bottom of wiki board infobox) to say they are placeholders.
According to the wiki there are:
>Main anthem
>Alternate anthems (Victory anthem/Knockout anthem/Man-of-the-match anthems)
>Main goalhorn
>Individual player goalhorn (e.g. play a certain horn when Norton I scores, a specific anthem for a player scoring 2/3 in a row)
Usually a main anthem, victory anthem, main horn and a few player horns are selected but we do have slots for 9 + 9 alternate anthems.
This thread may or may not be useful: https://rbt.asia/mu/thread/90624504/
(Will listen to your suggestion tonight)

File: 1589954591336-1.mp4 (9.26 MB, 1280x720, compressed.mp4)

Let's talk about mipmaps.
>mipmaps […] are pre-calculated, optimized sequences of images, each of which is a progressively lower resolution representation of the same image.
>They are intended to increase rendering speed and reduce aliasing artifacts. A high-resolution mipmap image is used for high-density samples, such as for objects close to the camera. Lower-resolution images are used as the object appears farther away.

What does this mean?
It means if we set up our kit mipmap to be like pic related, it creates the effect seen in video related where our uniform changes texture depending on the player's distance from the camera (close-ups are green-yellow, far is purple/red).

Close-ups are usually:
>start of match intro (running onto field, anthems)
>goal celebration and replays
>^^ but for other team's goals
Any ideas on how we can abuse this?

PS. For the grass-texture uniform idea, different stadiums have different grass but I'm glad to try it anyway.

I don't think it will upset anyone (plus we can supply 4 other alt uniforms if organizers are killjoys) rather it would make us unique and demonstrate our culture well.
I insist we pursue this idea at some point. If we make it just switch between two uniforms (normal vs closeup) that could be fun. It's unnoticeable during normal play then.
Maybe the closeup could just be plain with 'skip the damn cutscenes!' written on it.

We now have a totally valid team that's a heap of fun. All that's left is optional parts like a stadium and billboard memes, a substitution strategy and uploading the DLC packs (I'll do that one today).
Easy ways remaining to get involved:
- Make or suggest billboard ads (512 x 64), or other hype material
- Suggest celebration fanfares for certain players scoring (Eris is only one done so far)
- Suggest roster improvements (esp. substitutes) http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki//eris//Roster

Sometimes.

If you mean the actual cup, it isn't starting for at least a month.
All the footage here is just from practice games. I just ran 30 games with our current strategy (pic 1 related, games were run just like the cup except no substitutions) and if you decide winning is a goal, there is room for improvement. However it is hard to be sure whether the outcomes of these games are mostly the result of strategy or luck.

Python 3 script to generate a random 3-game cup from these 30 /eris/ games: https://hastebin.com/raw/ipolusiluz.py
I generated ten thousand of those cup results, our average (mean) 3-game result was 3.27 points (3 per win, 1 per draw, 0 per loss) and the most likely result (mode) is 4, a win plus a draw plus a loss (pic 2 related is the probability of us getting a certain total score)
Depending on the other game results, a 4 may or may not be enough to advance to knockout stage (I believe 3 won't, 5 must) so naively assuming 4 points has
a 50% chance of making it to the knockouts and higher has a 100% chance, then these way-too-few-to-be-scientifically-valid tests lead me to believe our current chances of making the knockout stage are approximately:

33% (1/3)

>>2434
I will have to retract this statement. In fact there's a reasonable chance it will happen in the cup.

But if we play to lose, then we might not achieve that either. Should we play for zany banter?

>>2441
Well I can't do it, I have conflict of interest!

I can just do more testing instead. I ran an extra 30 matches under the same conditions and added them to the script. We lost a couple more and started winning by 1 instead of drawing this time.
As a result, using the same calculations, we now have a much nicer chance of:

39.25% (nearly 2/5)

I hypothesize due to this trend that if I keep testing then we will soon approach a 100% chance of winning.

note: while this does look like losing, with such a very small sample size of 60 games, a bunch of randomly-generated results will often give similarly distributed outcomes. these tests dont actually provide convincing evidence that our team plays better or worse than any team.

There should be ample posts in the webring to found your concern upon.
Viewing his post on /ita/, the worst I can say about him is that he put in time and effort to host a traditional community event and considers it a waste of his time if no-one gives a shit. That hardly qualifies as egotistical.

Congratulations /eris/, your board is now officially entered into the 6th Infinity Cup, a competition dedicated to crowning the divegrass champion of the webring! The defending champion and host for this Cup is /kind/, who defeated /co/ in the final, via a nailbiting penalty shootout. We will be following a similar tournament structure this Cup, with a Group Stage, guaranteeing your board at least 3 games, and a final Knockout Stage to determine the sole champion. The tentative schedule for the tournament is as follows:

>July 31

Second Deadline, for tactics and Player Cards (explained below)
>August 1st
Draw Stream on the Infinity Cup Cytube, determining which teams your board will face in the Group Stage
>August 7th, 8th, 9th
First, second, and third Day of competition
>August 14th, 15th, 16th
Fourth, fifth, sixth day of competition, completion of Group Stage
>August 22nd
First day of Knockout Stage
>August 23rd
Final day of Knockout Stage, and the champion is crowned

 No.2494

>>2493

So what's the deal with this second deadline? This is for the strategy your team will run during the games, and it's the alternative to live managing. It's a simple text document that the rigger follows during the game that outlines offensive and defensive tactics, as well as substitutes. As for Player Cards, these are the special abilities your players will carry into the game.

>Alright, I think I can handle that

Perfect. The page explaining Team Strategies and how to select them is here: http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Team_Strategies And the page for Player Cards that does the same is here: http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Player_Cards You can send your strategies and player cards to me (SKF@8chan.co or SKF@cock.li) until July 31st, which gives me ample time to actually put them into the game. If you have any trouble with this as well, reach out. I've tried to make those two pages as accessible as possible, but I know there's still going to be issues for those putting it together.

>I want to help but not do that
Not a problem. Most teams don't have their roster pages filled out, and it's likely yours is one of them. Head to the wiki and fill in your team's roster page with images and brief profiles on your players. It really helps the commentators with their shitposts in-game. (Exemplar roster pages: http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki//ita//Roster http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki//loomis//Roster http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki//otter//Roster) We're always looking for 3D models of players on teams, so if you happen to know how to use Blender or have access to MMDs or similar 3D models, pass them along and we'll work on getting them into PES. We're also opening up submissions for adboards for this Cup, the field advertisements the scroll through during play. To submit them, simply post in your respective thread on /icup/, the only requirement is that the images be scaleable to 512x64, as that's the dimensions that PES needs for them to work. And as always, there's also room for any OC you guys want to put together for the tournament.

What this means for us:
1) Tentative schedule for the cup is set.
2) I have already sent our strategy sheet and player cards over, although I will need to resend it as I've made some big changes recently.
3) You can help by making or suggesting designs of field advertisements.
4) We might have to change the Roster page to make it actually helpful to commentators and not just a fun shitpost. Suggestions for icons are also welcome.

Other anthems can be chosen for individual players scoring and a special one if we qualify for the knockout stage.

The search for an anthem re-inspired a long overdue exploration of Dischordian music. Bandcamp has quite a bit (and possibly a bunch from people actually named Eris. Incidentally, I just discovered the soccer players Eris Abedini and Eris Muhandes exist)
There's some good stuff there too.

This could work as a knockout-qualifier anthem, it's a bit too chill to be HYPE! material. Glitch hop is certainly an appropriate yet accessible genre.
By the way, check 'em.

Thank you to all who tuned in to the /test/ stream today. If you missed it, the matches will be up on the archive soon (https://pt.neko.bar/video-channels/icuparchive/video-playlists). We are officially two weeks away from the Group Draw to see who your team will compete against in the first stage of the Cup. If your team does not have their tactics sorted out yet, feel free to chip in by working on Team Strategies (http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Team_Strategies) or Player Cards (http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Player_Cards). I know this is complicated, so swing by your thread on /icup/ and I can answer any questions you might have. The deadline is July 31st. If you're not tactically inclined, you can still help out by creating adboards specific to your board. Adboards, like /japan/'s here, pic #2 related, are the little signs that cycle through on the sidelines during games. Post a board-related ad as a PNG in the same dimensions as /japan/'s and I'll be able to use it during the Cup. Any other OC for your team or roster you'd like to contribute is always appreciated as well.

Notes (for both you and myself):
>It's much more fun to watch with the anons in the cytu.be chat. Thanks again to those who showed up. >tfw /test/ stream got more viewers than last year's final
>Our strategy has changed a fair bit since the last time I submitted it, hence some surprise and confusion. In the real cup, we will be doing more big long risky kicks instead of lots of small and smart short kicks. That will make it more exciting! (As mentioned in commentary, passes completed and possession will decrease significantly)
>Chaos is now RAW.
>Player numbers weren't imported.
>136199 is an animu test model with blue wings that I forgot to remove. I don't even know what character that is.
>I failed to export the textures for player numbers and names on their clothing, hence the magenta pink rectangles. This should be fixed later along with the missing parts of shirts and pants.
>Chat correctly noted that Eris's butt is excessively big and round but I can't be bothered fixing it right now. Maybe later, maybe not. I can try and fix the apple and face a bit though.
>technically this match doesnt count for anything but im putting it in the wiki anyway lol
>HYPE material welcome! We need to come up with at least one adboard (the wide scrolling ads for boards that surround the playing field)

I'm glad we had a good time, HYPE'd for the real cup in August.

Just a reminder you have less than a week to finish up tactics and player cards. If you are having any difficulties or are worried no one will step up, leave a post here or in your thread on /icup/. I have an anon on standby willing to put something together for teams who need help. If you're a team who has participated in a previous Cup and you have not explicitly let me know you're sticking with your strats from last time, do so ASAP, as it cuts down on the work I'll have to do in the week after the Draw Stream. If you've already done so, kick back, take it easy and wait for the draw stream. Draw Stream is August 1st, 2PM PDT, 4PM CDT, 5PM EDT, 21:00 UTC. Mark that calendar.

As well, we're still accepting adboards for use during the tournament, visit the dedicated adboard thread on /icup/ and post them there.
