I seriously wonder how much money I've saved by avoiding all the streaming service subscriptions, paying publishers for songs and all that. I might actually be saving dozens or even hundreds a month with this one simple trick.
There's a cultural aspect to it too. I'm in many communities (whether games, art, sport, programming, graypolitik, social ne twerks) where it's taken for granted that we aren't doing things for money. The digital world is largely post-scarce. To charge is either desperate (understandable) or predatory (antisociety, have fun being alone)
