It's cults all the way up.
On thing the bastard brothers d`e SubGenii understood well was the core link between cults and profit. Cults are a time-proven model to gain power and the money that comes with it.

Do you really think the people with the most money and power aren't getting in on wacky cult shenanigans? They'd be fucking stupid not to.

And I don't just mean "Make your brand a religion" metaphors either. That's just a surface aspect of it. I really do mean cult in the full aspect of it.
And I don't just mean how Scientology makes a buttload of money, or the churches buying up all the land they can get.
that shit is a blind alley with returns so diminishing that they never existed in the first place but i can't argue with what you're saying
Well of course. The cult aspects aren't as apparent outside of the inner circle, but most megacorp owners are scarcely different from cult leaders in any sense. They have their own esotericism, right now it's something like "singularity", although like most cults the core idea is not really a fixed, well-defined thing or even religious in essence.

One thing that differentiates this type of cult from the more usual cult you are probably familiar with is the fact that they often don't start as cults. Usually, they start as simple capitalist business enterprises, and they grow over time. The aftermath of the dotcom bust is when these cults really formed and became true cults.

of course, under it all is the deepest cult, the financial cult. I don't even know much about it, all I know is that those motherfuckers have deep pockets and opinions on how society should be run.
