The thing is, it never really intended to cross the road. The chicken was just chilling by the roadside, minding it's own business and doing chicken things, when suddenly a wild Diogenes appeared and asked the chicken if it would like to visit Plato's academy with him. The chicken then, without even taking the briefest moment to look both ways first, almost as if it were suicidal, inexplicably darted out into heavy traffic and was nearly trampled by a speeding carriage. Panicked and dashing this way and then that, the birdbrain did somehow manage to make it to other side, miraculously, untouched, without even losing a single feather, as if the Gods themselves had intervened on it's behalf.
