Do you like hiking, /b/? I went for a short one today and it was really nice, I think I will go again next weekend.
I do a lot of walking for my job
either my shoes are too big or my feet are too flat but i can't walk for shit for more than 5-6 hours

Trains are cool, albeit quite deterministic.

Yea, in the middle of workday. The slacker was out partying all night again, and expects its colleagues to cover for it.

How do you know for sure it's not a star ship that just happened to crash on some train tracks?
Replies: >>9642
>>9634
Unlikely, the crater is too small for an impact landing and star ships usually can't safely travel near the ground.
Replies: >>9648
>>9642
Well for one that doesn't look like a safe landing to me. And for two I don't think you personally have an extraordinary expertise in the design and function of star ships or else you'd probably have one or be a crew member.
i swear i'm gonna ban emojis

Dew it!
Haven't hiked for a while due to foot problems. My boots are collecting dust rather than mud at the moment :(

Hiking is by far the most fun recreational activity. Its a damn shame so much land is private property nowadays, unless you're lucky enough to live near a state park there are no good public hiking opportunities. Not that private property has ever stopped me, of course.

nah, I propose instead you ban emojis when you feel like it.
There's a subtle but profound difference.

I live near a national park, although the geography of this country is not very dramatic. I should go more often but I never really went alone. Maybe I should go.

What do you like about hiking? What makes it fun?

I actually like talking on a hike. As long as you don't have those ranty loud people, someone who is happy to talk but understands the power of silence is really nice to have on a hike.

Idk, there is something very calming about walking a very long distance, and overcoming mild obstacles such as mud and fallen logs, and you get to see all kinds of cool stuff, and you get to be outside but not around people.

I don't live near (100km+) any trails that I can recognize berries on. I feel like I'm missin' out!

LEARN YOUR BUSH TUCKER MATE
Very much so. Perhaps more like walking than hiking, but I that's been my preferred way to show up to school or a day job since I guess around puberty, and it's obviously the optimal way to enjoy interesting national or state parks.

I wish I had done more backpacking. That's especially fun since you have to constantly manage basic things like food, water, shelter, and maps, how far you can travel, and how much you can carry, which are often just boring routine tasks in normal life.

Some of them get really crowded, and often by germans, which you might come to understand the typical behavior of german tourists. But at least they're usually polite and not like what exactly you might find in places where people don't consider it a place to go to get away from the noise and strife of everyday life.

Obviously if you're going to the western desert of the US then don't even try to be stupid about carrying enough water. It's literally the desert. If you don't know what you're doing and also hiking around all day you're going to regret it. They have all kinds of signs about like
>BTW IN CASE YOU THOUGHT OTHERWISE THIS IS IN FACT A DESSERT AND HERE'S SOME WATER AND YOU'RE A BLOCKHEAD IF YOU DON'T FILL UP AND BRING ENOUGH
And yet people still underestimate like a motherfucking remote desert. It's like that famous sign in I think north nevada or thereabouts where you pass by the gas station because the prices are ridiculous, and then you come upon the sign that says
>warning: 270 to the next gas station
and then you come to realize that this is your life and you just that they were being funny and now you're where the fuck this story is going to end.

I was recently hiking with a friend who kept changing our route to visit all kinds of local landmarks and whatever, and it made me realize that I do not care about that at all. I just like walking in the forest.

Based knowing what you like. I used to go ATVing with some guys and I don't really want to be the leader and most of the time it's just something like
>huh neat thanks for showing me your secret spot or what happens down that other path
I just like driving ATVs and so do they

Is there anything special to do if I want to go hiking in the winter? Only for single days so I do not plan on freezing during the night. Other than considering that it gets dark earlier, is there anything else?
Replies: >>10115
>>10113
Obviously wear your best winter boots. Don't go somewhere you aren't very familiar with – if you get caught in the snow, you will lose most of your landmarks and the trail may be difficult to follow. Stick to well-travelled trails unless you know the area like the back of your hand.

Price hiking.
Very much so. It's why I live in a shack in the woods.
