The "California girl" aesthetic is one of the emptiest ones. It's hard to overstate how many years of beautiful young womens' lives are wasted trying to live up to this fantastical ideal. Not just body image problems, but also courting sleazebag dudes, wasting money on stuff no sane person would buy, and submission of the personal will to an extremely homogenous and competitive culture.
