Mayhaps he was tired of it all and wanted to go outside one last time instead of dying without seeing the sun. It's happened to a /k/ anon not too long ago. He had brain cancer and spent his last month bed-ridden, half his body paralyzed, and his last posts were full of regret over not having ended things "on his own terms" (and also pictures of his piss bags).
