Tell me about the philosophical, religious and cultural world of clownery. What do they know that we haven't yet synthesized from the other schools of thought?

Should one include political icons like Lord Bloody Wog Rolo, Vermine SUPREME and Emperor Norton I, PoM (pbuh) in the clown tradition, or are they a separate entity? Are political satirists interrelated?
